Ann Curry
Ann Curry, an American photographer and journalist who has covered the natural and military disasters of nearly 45 years. Her focus is on the suffering of those who live in these places. Curry has covered wars across the world, including in Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo. Ann Curry, born November 19, 1956 (Agana) is an American journalist, who was an anchor on television. Curry was renowned for her reporting on human rights issues in war-stricken nations and natural catastrophes. Curry's father served as a sailor with the U.S. Navy and her mother was Japanese. Her father was with the mother of her in Japan when he was a stationed there after World War II. Because of her father's work as a military officer that they had to move around a lot. The family eventually moved to Ashland Oregon where Curry attended high school. In 1978 she graduated in 1978 from in the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism. Her exposure to a variety of cultures and experiences in her early years likely contributed to the empathy that she has for issues of international significance. Curry did not have the opportunity to attend one school in San Diego, Alameda Oregon or Virginia for two years, due to her family relocated frequently. Curry graduated in Ashland the high school. In Medford, she started her broadcasting career with KTVL Channel 10 as an intern. When she was 22, she became the station's first female reporter. In Portland, Oregon she was made an anchor and reporter by KGW which is NBC's subsidiary. Then she returned into Los Angeles four years later working as a journalist at KCBS TV. It was during her time with the station for the duration of six years that she won the two Emmy Awards.
